(Anyway here’s the answer to ur ask:)
There was in fact former clan (s) living where Lightclan n Nightclan now are situated, however, these old clans left (/were removed/foreshadowing) many moons before Dream and Nartmart (I ain’t spelling bros name correctly) were born.
Dream and Norman were taught about the clan (s), the warrior code, medicine code and Starclan n stuff by their mother, Nimblestalk (Nim). Her teachings are what lead the twins to leave their former home and create their own clans after her death and the moontree incident.
It is unclear whether Nimblestalk once was a clancat herself, had heard tales about it, or had been raised by clan cats, but either which way she seemed highly knowledgeable in clan matters and history (although her teachings could be rather biased, she was only one cat after all…not that Dream or Nightmat would have known this. She was their only contact besides eachother for much of their upbringing). Thus Dreamblaze and Nightstars inspirations and methods for clan keeping are rather…untraditional, to say the least. That’s what happens when ur mother throws a bunch of strange laws and one liners at you as a kit and expects it all to stick!
In conclusion, there were clans before the current two. However these clans are (presumably) long gone, and many of the specifics about them have been lost to time and memory.
