16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative?
Brethyn’s second favorite relative behind his father was his aunt Ninalu. She was a calm and steady presence to balance the spitting brimstone personalities of her husband, daughter and brother in law. In many ways, she saw Brethyn as her own son. This was taken as a mighty slight by Ulvisa, her daughter, who saw it as another person Brethyn got preferential treatment from.
In reality, Ninalu was really just the kind of person who never ran out of love to give. She would stay up after twelve hour shifts at the shop just to read stories to the children or help ease her husband’s arthritis. She was a great role model for her kids, but unfortunately she couldn’t escape the fate of her husband’s family. Even though he has no access to her spirit since she was part of a separate family that his uncle married into, Brethyn will offer prayers to her at his makeshift shrines because of how comforting it is to think she’s still watching out for him.
