What hurts me most about Crooked Kingdom is that after everything this found family goes through, they end up going their separate ways in the end. Matthias is gone, Nina is off to Ravka, Wylan is in his own house, Jesper moves out of the slat to be with Wylan, Inej moves out as well and plans on leaving Ketterdam soon, and then there’s Kaz. Alone again. And he does it to himself.
I often think about that last Inej chapter, where he sneaks into Wylan’s house to drop a letter off to Inej. He couldve come in through the front door. Couldve joined the other 3 for dinner, but instead decided to sneak in. He mustve heard Inej, Wylan, and Jesper laughing and singing. And yet he stayed away.
Inej says a couple chapters earlier that Kaz Brekker doesnt say goodbye. He just lets go.
Hes letting them go.
It hurts so much.
