So Hard Undone By

Homeless ninja sit squatting in the abandoned building across the block. They creep in past boarded-over windows and doors; they sneak in through the heat-vents like gaunt Santa Clauses in black pyjamas. 

Angry birds are circling my apartment, waiting for smokers to hit the street. The birds have learned to steal sticks of nicotine, and they're not nice about it. They're sort of obnoxious and mean. Anger, vengeful creatures. I've looked them in the eyes; they can remember when they used to rule this world. And they still kinda resent us.

Whatever.

She tells me that she loves me, but she says it with a bullet.  And she says it to my heart.
