Torment: Tides of Numenera (video game)

This was easily one of the most anticipated games of my entire life so far. I loved Planescape: Torment (of which this is a spiritual successor), and the windup on development for this game took years. But ultimately it was not in vain. It was not quite as rich an experience as its predecessor, but those were some big shoes to fill. And that left a lot of room for Torment: Tides of Numenera to be awesome in its own right.

T:ToN is a strongly narrative based RPG experience. It’s not really a game for someone interested in game mechanics or such. It’s more about character study, philosophy, and world building. Choices beget choices. There is no clear moral binary as with other games (like Mass Effect or Infamous) but rather a system of something called “The Tides” that works a little more like the Hogwarts Houses and judges what sort of quests you take on, how you solve problems, and how you interact with others. It was a real breath of fresh air.

The story begins when you wake up to discover you are falling towards the earth from orbit. You barely have time to figure out more than the difference between up and down (and you are definitely going down) before you crash land in a harbor town called Sagus Cliffs. And thus begins your journey in the Ninth World, a place of wondrous artifacts and technology and unpredictable people and challenges.

Why do people call you “Castoff?”

Who created you? This person they call “The Changing God?”

But these are incidental questions, as the game itself tries to answer a question much larger in scope...

Looking for Numenera Inspiration!

Ok so, I’ve been playing in a Numenera group campaign for a few months now and I have to say I’m really loving this world and especially the adventures our GM and party has been going on. However, beyond 2-3 blogs like @the9thworld and @ninthworldinspiration, I’m finding it quite difficult to find art to inspire Numenera campaigns or Numenera-inspired art. So, if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to reblog this post with them or send me links!
