“I’m not leaving without you Julian, I can’t.” She looked back into his eyes. It was good that he was still alive and talking. “Just keep talking to me, we’ll be able to beam up in a few and then you’ll be fine.” She urged him, not wanting him to die. “Tell me about the first time we met, whether me or Jadzia.” Ezri commented
Julian felt oddly light. He was starting to loose the feeling in his legs and the tips of his fingers. The pain was almost unbearable, but he focused on Ezri’s voice; Ezri’s blue eyes staring down at him; Ezri’s spots that seemed to glow in the dim lighting...
“The first time we met...” he repeated slowly. It was painful to talk. Actually, it was painful to breathe. The phaser blast had hit him hard enough to draw blood, but he didn’t want to look down at his injury.
“The first time we met, you were smiling... and I took one look at you and I said to myself.... ‘she is special’,” he continued, his voice tinted by pain, his speech interrupted by sharp intakes of breath. He didn’t really know whether he was talking about Jadzia or Ezri. Perhaps both.
He thought he heard something in the distance. “Ezri... promise me you’ll stay safe,” he panicked, “promise me that if you have to, you’ll leave me and save yourself.”
