Now I was pretty excited to see this new KSR Saejima card and to see that there was a Yama-oroshi boss rush event.
But then I realized Saejima’s card said it was him in 2016 which is decidedly NOT when he fought Yama-oroshi in Y5, and then I was hooting and hollering
Summary: After getting out of jail for a third time, Saejima decides to visit the mountain village so he can properly thank Okudera for everything the man taught him. Unfortunately, a child has gotten stranded on the mountain, and Saejima rushes to his aid
In the wake of the war between east and west that swallowed up five major cities... An incident occurred after Saejima had once again left his imprisonment at Abashiri.
<Boots crunching on snow>
Saejima: ....It's been a while. I hope Okudera-han's doin' well.
<He knocks on the door>
Saejima: He ain't comin' out... is he not home?
<Another set of boots in the snow>
Nishina: Oh! Well if it isn't Saejima-san! What are you doing here?
Saejima: Oh, Nishina-han. Been a while.
Saejima: Since I got outta jail, I wanted to give my thanks for all the help I got before, but... do ya know where Okudera-han is?
Nishina: I see. You've been back in prison since last time.
Nishina: Well, your timing isn't the best. Right now, Okudera-san's gone down the mountain to buy some hunting equipment. (Tl note: WHY are you always doing this sort of thing to Saejima you are SO MEAN)
Saejima: ...Do you know when he'll be back?
Nishina: Maybe today or tomorrow.
Saejima: I see... In that case, I oughta clear away the snow that's piled up 'fore he gets back. Seems like there's a good amount.
Nishina: Great. I'm sure Okudera-san would be delighted. And, if he's not back today, swing by my place and you can stay the night.
Saejima: Are you sure?
Nishina: Mhm. I know the kind of man you are, and since you've paid your debt to society there's nothing to worry about.
Saejima: ...I owe ya one. Thanks for this, Nishina-han.
Saejima: By the way... Has Yama-oroshi been around? Has it approached the village at all?
Nishina: It's been docile. As long as it's not provoked, I don't think it'll come near humans again.
Nishina: We probably owe that to you driving it away from the village last time it came around.
Nishinia: ...I really have to thank you again.
Saejima: Hah, no thanks are needed. I'm the one that oughta be payin' ya back still. If it weren't for this village, I'd be dead.
<music changes>
Villager's voice: It's awful! Nishina-san!
Nishina: What is it? What happened?
<Nishina steps off screen>
Nishina: ....!? I see. Got it.
<He returns>
Nishina: ...Sorry, Saejima-san. There's something I need to take care of.
Saejima: What's going on?
Nishina: ..............Okay. This area's landlord's son, he was playing on the mountain and got stranded...
Nishina: ...It seems like he may have entered Yama-oroshi's territory.
Saejima: What!?
Nishina: A rescue party has been called, but it'll take some time for them to arrive, so I think we should go in separately to search too.
Saejima: ...Then I'm comin' too. I can't let 'em kill Yama-oroshi.
Nishina: ...............It'll be reassuring to have you come along, Saejima-san. I'll lend you a gun and clothes. Come with me.
<they're now up on the mountain and the wind is howling>
Saejima: (It's really comin' down... Gotta find him fast.....)
Saejima: ....! Nishina-han, here!
Nishina: ...The size of these footprints... They must be Yama-oroshi's. And they're recent... it must be close.
Saejima: .....! Over there... There's something there.
Yama-oroshi: ...............
Nishina: Has it... noticed something over there? It looks like it's looking at something.... That's....
Saejima: ...............Is that the boy who got stranded earlier?
Nishina: Y-Yeah...! This isn't good! Take aim! ....We have to stop Yama-oroshi before it attacks!
<BANG>
Yama-oroshi: ....! Roaaaaar!
Nishina: Saejima-san, hurry up and fire! It's turning this way!
Saejima: ....No, Nishina-han. No more shootin' guns.
Nishina: What?
Saejima: I'll hold Yama-oroshi off. You get that stranded guy outta here.
<Saejima drops his gun>
Nishina: ...!? Hey! Why are you tossing your gun....
Nishina: Don't tell me... you're going to face it bare handed? That's insane... you'll be killed!
Saejima: .....Please. Nishina-han.
Nishina: Sa-....Saejima-san........
Nishina: ....Shit..... I'm coming right back. And when I do, if you're in danger I'm shooting it no matter what.
Saejima: ....Looks like you're full of energy, Yama-oroshi.
Saejima: Well then... Let's have our first match in a while, yeah?
<the boss rush event occurs with Full-Scale Offensive as the background music>
Yama-oroshi: Roooaaaar!
Saejima: Haa... Haa... Just as damn tough as expected.
Saejima: (It seems like Yama-oroshi's taken a good amount of damage too...)
Saejima: (...But the thick skin it's got is preventin' any decisive blows from takin' it down.... I gotta aim for the vulnerable spots on its face)
Saejima: (But... Yama-oroshi is too damn fast to land a full force blow on its head like that....)
Saejima: (If there's somethin' I can do to make it stop movin'.... I can use that as my chance to hit it squarely...)
Nishina: Saejima-san! I brought that idiot kid back to the village!
Saejima: Nishina-han!
Saejima: (This is bad... Now Yama-oroshi's going to be shot and killed...)
Nishina: Saejima-san! Use this!
<He throws something>
Saejima: What's Nishina-han thowin' to me... This is...!
Saejima: .......! ......Thanks a bunch, Nishina-han!
Yama-oroshi: ROOOAAAAAR!
Saejima: ....Sorry, Yama-oroshi. I'm gonna pull a dirty trick...!
<Something is sprayed>
Yama-oroshi: ....!!!!
Saejima: (Great, the bear spray stopped it! This is my chance!)
Saejima: Haaaaaaaaa........ oraaa!!!!
<a big punch>
Yama-oroshi: ....! Grr.... rrrrr....
<Yama-oroshi drops>
Saejima: Whew.... That was... a close one....
<Saejima drops too>
Nishina: S-Saejima-san!!!!
Saejima: Nishina-han... Ah, that's right. After I took down Yama-oroshi, I blacked out...
Nishina: Seriously. What an absurd guy you are... Why the hell would you deliberately throw aside your gun to fight a bear with just your fists...
Saejima: ......Thanks for not interruptin' that, Nishina-han.
Saejima: This whole thing... was all because of humans enterin' the otherwise docile Yama-oroshi's territory.
Saejima: So, I wanted to do my damndest to prevent Yama-oroshi gettin' killed for defendin' it's turf.
Nishina: ...If you had used a gun, it would have ended in death. To avoid killing, you chose to fight it bare handed...
Nishina: The landlord's stranded child and Yama-oroshi, you were working to save both of them.
Saejima: ...............
Nishina: ....When you said you were going to fight it bare handed, I thought you must have had a reason for it.
Nishina: ...So, just in case you did, I grabbed the bear spray.
Saejima: ...So that's why... Thank you again, Nishina-han.
Nishina: Nah, it was nothing. I'm just glad Yama-oroshi wasn't killed.
Villager's voice: Nishina-saaaan. On his way back up the mountain, it seems that Okudera-san's car got stuck in the snow.....
Nishina: What? I see. I'll go right away.
Saejima: Nishina-han, I'm goin' too.
Nishina: ...Are you okay enough for that? I think it'd be best if you just rested...
Saejima: It ain't a problem. The whole point of this trip was to try to repay the favor that Okudera-han did for me. Right here and now, I got a chance to help him in some way.
Nishina: ...You're a tough man, huh. You're saying that despite having just fought a bear.
Saejima: Heh, let's get a move on already, Nishina-han.

okay first of all this was NOT the raffle prize but I am going to do that one still. the raffle winner very kindly wanted me to do this one first because we were both Very Excited to see what’s going on here
I really love Nishina being like “oh you went to jail again? after we very kindly hid you from the cops? fine. whatever.” and Saejima being like “oh a kid’s in danger? well I better make sure nobody kills the man-eating bear”
I also love Saejima’s smiling sprite. they do so badly with the smiles all the time. this one does kind of work as a shit eating grin tho
Very tragically I think this confirms the 15th anniversary book’s timeline that Saejima went back to jail at the end of Y5 and didn’t get out until the end of Y6, meaning he was out for 9 months during 2010, a few days/weeks at the end of 2012/start of 2013, and then back in jail until the end of 2016. I hate it here
