Watchmen (1986)
Okay DC hear me out. Instead of making more watchmen comics why not just make comics about the Charlton Comics characters that watchmen was based on? That way you can adopt watchmens iconic imagery without actually digging up Alan Moore's masterwork and mudding up an already completed story.
Captain Atom is your Doctor Manhattan
Blue Beetle is your Nite-owl
The Question in your Rorschach
Nightshade (or preferably Black Canary) is your Silk Spectre
And Peacemaker is your Comedian
Make comics with these characters instead of beating the dead horse that is watchmen. These characters have so much more potential for storytelling too and are way more likeable than the purposely unlikeable watchmen characters. The Rorschach book coming out should just be The Question. Come on DC have a semi original idea
Laurie Blake is Laurie Juspeczyk (aka Silk Specter II), daughter of Sally Jupiter (Silk Specter I) and Edward Blake, The Comedian.
Nite-Owl AKA Daniel Dreiberg and Laurie Juspeczyck AKA Silk Spectre continued their careers as costumed vigilantes after the Dimensional Incursion Event (D.I.E.), when Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias) teleported a giant squid monster, created by his laboratories, into the heart of New York City, which unleashed a psychic wave that killed 3 million people, but the nations of the world, which were on the brink of nuclear Armageddon, stood down and negotiated peace, believing that there was now a threat to the entire planet from another dimension.
After that Laurie and Dan adopted the pseudonyms of Sam and Sandra Hollis, but Laurie changed her superhero persona to The Comedienne to honor her father The Comedian (Edward Blake). However, it's not clear when Laurie legally changed her surname from Juspeczyck and took her father's last name, Blake.
In 1995, Nite-Owl and The Comedienne were arrested by federal authorities for violating the Keene Act. Their capture reignited public interest in superheroes, which led the New Frontiersman to publish Rorschach's journal in its entirety: Rorschach wrote his suspicions about Veidt in his journal, in which he recorded his entire investigation, and mailed it to New Frontiersman, a local right-wing newspaper.
At some point in the last 24 years, however, Laurie Blake served her time (perhaps by cooperating with authorities) and was released from custody; she later joined the Bureau and became part of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, using her lifelong expertise to help the government hunt down the new wave of costumed vigilantes operating in violation of the Keene Act. However, Dan Dreiberg remains in federal custody and refuses to speak about Rorschach (Walter Kovacs: he was disintegrated by Doctor Manhattan to maintain the secret of Adrian Veidt's hoax) and his disappearance or reveal anything he knows about Adrian Veidt (who is now 80 years old, has been missing for seven years and was finally declared "dead" by the FBI).
HBO Hoping To Move Forward With Watchmen Series As Soon As Possible
It looks like HBO wants to get their Watchmen series out as soon as they can. According comicbook.com (via Variety) HBO President Casey Bloys is excited about the prospects of the series:
“I have very high hopes,” said Bloys, according to Variety editor Debra Birnbaum. The HBO exec went on to praise the script and the casting for the series, and said he expects to see the pilot in the next week.
