This past weekend the #NMACICT Committee held a tech training for Delta DEARS in order to transform them into TECH SAVY DEARS. The training included getting email accounts set up, an introduction to social media platforms, various cloud services, equipping the DEARS with the tools needed to work their smart phones, and much more. ⁣ ⁣ We look forward to sharing more tech workshops with the community and supporting @easternregdst’s #codeRED initiative that encourages sharing the language of code with girls and those of color during Computer Science Education Week(12/9-12/15) and all year long. ⁣ ⁣ #NMACDST #TheEAST #DST #DST106 #DST1913 https://www.instagram.com/p/B55r-1dHX3m/?igshid=1up8h8izizva2

We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend upon understanding how technology works. However, only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. Currently, there are more than 500,000 computing jobs open nationwide, but last year only 42,969 computer science students graduated into the workforce. That’s why on December 9th from 10AM-Noon, the #NMACICT committee will host CodeRED: An Hour of Code event, where youth from 9-14 will get a hands-on opportunity to learn about the technology around them. Boys and girls are invited to attend this event. Please RSVP  and share the program info with parents/guardians.
