While some celebrate this, and might make the time in between their full jobs and on the weekends to do some legislative work, many of us are working daily to address some of the everyday issues facing New Mexico, All the while working full time jobs, raising families, and making ends meet. Unfortunately this system limits those awesome and amazing people who could serve. Imagine if there were more like us in the legislature and what we could accomplish? That’s why I’m actively working with colleagues to modernize our legislature, so that we’re meeting 21st century needs with a 21st century system—one that is just and equitable. Tomorrow is the deadline for New Mexicans to register online to vote. It's also the day county clerks across the state will start mailing out absentee ballots to voters who have already requested them and the day in-person absentee voting starts. Voters also have the option of registering to vote in person until Oct. 31, and have until Oct. 20 to request an absentee ballot. Early voting at other sites in the counties starts Oct. 17. According to the @sfreporter “lots of dates and moving parts. So far, New Mexico voters have embraced the prospect of absentee voting: As of the end of last week, 295,511 voters had requested such ballots. In 2016, only 76,476 voters cast absentee ballots in the general election. With all that is going on in the world, and especially here in New Mexico, and ALL that we have in store for us during the next two years—the little wins is what we got to keep us going—because they’re few and far between. The fight for justice continues, and definitely not just in these hallways. I’m humbled to serve in this legislature, especially at this moment.
