How To Write Journalism

- Create a plan/ guide as to where to begin your story and where to end it. Do not rush in and just start writing.

-  Don’t treat the audience like they’re stupid, but don’t try to “dress up” your words

- Simple but factual

- Introduction is the most important part. Hook the readers with a first line/intro paragraph

- After the introduction, the rest of the story is the most important. Now that readers are reading, craftfully place your facts, information, and observations

- Puns, puns, puns

Jazmine Headley, Whose Child Was Torn From Her Arms at a City Office, Gets a Public Apology

The mother whose chaotic arrest was captured on video as security officers attempted to extract her son from her arms tearfully spoke to to the City Council today.

Saw this while watching the news. Crazy that the woman and child had to go through such trauma. Heartbreaking to watch and read about .

Felix’s Map. 

Felix focused on the design of the park and the buildings around it. He included the many benches, trees, walkways, the arch, playground, and the fountain. The playground made me think of the two different designs and functions of the playgrounds. The trees reminded me of the squirrels  

1) in Washington square park there are two playgrounds. One consists of swings and the other a jungle gym

2) The squirrels in the park seem to be more friendly than the people. How many people get bit a year by these park squirrels?

It never fails to amaze me how much life parks can hold. Even in bitter weather, people populate Washington Square Park. Guitars are still being strummed and selfie sticks are never put away. 

Possible stories from observations:

1) Dog owners taking their pups to the park. Bracing the cold or pay for daycare?

Some dog owners can’t stress enough how important it is that their dog gets the oppertunity to run around every day. How many of these people are willing to stand outside in the freezing cold? What does it take for them to finally send their pup to daycare?

2) Chess players out rain or shine

The hustle never stops in NYC. Chess players are always out with hopes of luring in tourists for pocket change or simply to just play.
