So, the beginning. \\tw for mentions Concentration Camps, mentions of Eugenics Experimentation, General Medical Gore, Forced Labor//
I'm Zofia Adamaik. You'd probably know me either from that name or as the alias 'The Doctor'. Anyone who's seen my criminal case (US v. Adamaik) knows that my life is just one fucked up story after another. So, grab a drink and try not to get too disgusted.
I was born on October 19th, 1923, in Oświęcim, Poland. I was raised Jewish, which, back then, they thought was a race. My family and others in my neighborhood lacked the funds for healthcare, so I learned how to care for illnesses, cuts, and broken bones from a young age.
I was 16 when the German and Soviet Armies invaded Poland, and my family was taken into a concentration camp. Because I was young, the scientists in the Nazi Science Division (which I later learned was called HYDRA) chose me to be a part of Eugenics experiments.
To avoid it, I took a piece of broken glass, a needle, and thread (all of which I had stolen), and cut out my ovaries.
Johann Schmidt found that out, signalling to him that I had medical knowledge, because I didn't die.
I was given an ultimatum. Do medical work for them, or my family gets executed in front of me. I chose the former option.
In 1940, Dr. Abraham Erskine and I finished the Super Soldier Serum. Schmidt took it despite Erskine's warnings, turning him into the Red Skull.
Erskine was imprisoned, and I was put under the direction of Arnim Zola. Erskine got rescued by Peggy Carter shortly after, while I was stuck.
In 1943, the Nazi's had captured the United States' 107th Cavalry Unit. It was one of several units of allied soldiers we had at our facility. We'd always start with the highest ranked soldiers, it'd breakdown the rest of them.
When Sergeant James Barnes was set on my lab table. I knew something was different. Maybe it was something he said ("No way, you're way too pretty to be a Nazi"), or maybe it was the way he had pushed his men out of the way so he'd be the first to go.
There wasn't much resistance. With the way that Barnes had held strong, I could've believed that it didn't hurt at all.
I knew it had worked when he didn't get disfigured or die.
I hid when Captain America, Steve Rogers, Erskine's perfect subject, saved Barnes.
Erskine had his good man; I had mine.
I was recruited by the United States Government in 1945 via Operation Paperclip, along as my "boss" Arnim Zola.
I later took an experimental version of my serum in 1948, which caused me to stop aging. But that was it. No enhanced strength, no accelerated healing, no accelerated metabolism (so I can still get drunk, yay).
I worked for SHIELD under the guise of HYDRA for 75 years. Finally, in 2014, I helped Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff, and Nick Fury dismantle it.
I've been working on behalf of the Avengers as their head medic ever since.
