Bee awoke to the smell of bacon.
A soft sizzling sound filled the air, pricking their mind like a bunch of dull needles. Their head was pounding, a throb that echoed throughout their entire skull and crept down their neck, inching its way down their spine and throughout their body.
They felt so heavy. Like they were underwater, sinking deeper and deeper and deeper into the vast abyss, billions of pounds of pressure pushing in on them from each side, choking them, crushing them. Their breaths were shallow and wheezy, chest barely moving with each inhale.
Everything was so sore. Their limbs ached, each little twitch sending a dull pain creeping up up their muscles.
A soft groan slipped from their lips as they turned their head ever so slightly, squeezing their eyes shut as the throbbing nearly doubled in intensity at the movement.
Why did everything hurt so much?!
Bee flinched as fingers gently carded through their hair, nails scratching their scalp as the hand brushed back their bangs.
“I know you’re awake,” A low voice muttered in their ear, a presence leaning in close as hot breath tickled Bee’s skin.
“Come on, open your eyes,” Friend sighed, lightly twisting a lock of Bee’s hair between their fingers.
Bee groaned, turning their head slightly as they cracked open their eyes. Instantly, they winced and squeezed them closed, the soft yellow glow emitting from the end table lamp burning their retinas and sending a sharp pain shooting through their skull.
Friend sighed, dragging their fingers across Bee’s scalp.
“I made you breakfast,” Friend whispered quietly, their hand catching on a knot and tugging Bee’s hair. “Open your eyes, Bee, or I might just think you’re being ungrateful…”
The warning in Friend’s tone was clear.
Slowly, Bee forced their eyes open once more, blinking a few times to clear their vision. A small whimper slipped from their throat as their eyes met Friend’s, a ball of ice settling into the pits of their gut as they watched Friend’s lips curl into a grin.
“That’s it, such a good little bitch for me,” Friend’s eyes glinted in amusement, as they brushed Bee’s hair back from their forehead. “Now, I hope you like bacon egg and cheese sandwiches.”
