California Special by Joe McMillan Via Flickr: Santa Fe trains 75 and 76, the California Special, operated between Houston (with connections to and from Dallas/Fort Worth) and Clovis, New Mexico, where they connected with the San Francisco Chief. On February 15, 1964, #75 is at Lubbock,Texas. On the rear of the train this day is "shorty" business car 423, which was assigned to the Slaton Division superintendent. The 423 is coupled to a "Valley" series sleeper. Smoke is rising from the diner as breakfast is being prepared. The train is blue flagged at the moment for inspection after setting out a mail car. These trains were discontinued in July 1968. Photo by Joe McMillan.
