18. a book series you can always escape in the chronicles of narnia has always been a special series for me. when i first read them in high school, i was struggling with my faith as a christian. the chronicles of narnia very simply told me stories about what my faith could and maybe should look like, and it really moved me. even now, i can still feel a deeper thing than magic when i read the words “further in and higher up” in the last battle.

26. the film you watched most recently that you could watch again and again i honestly can’t remember the last movie i watched because as much as i think films can be art, i don’t often have the block of time / attention / patience to watch one. i think that the last movie i got super excited about was the farewell. the scenes in china reminded me so much of taiwan / taipei, and the inclusion of chinese culture and language felt natural and not forced. it was an authentically chinese movie with an authentically chinese american protagonist. as a chinese american, i almost never find myself represented that honestly, and i’m hopeful that the farewell means that we’ll see more of that in the future.
