It was a stupid idea. A very, very stupid and wrong idea. So like most bad ideas Catherine had, she went through with it. She got herself into her car and sat with the engine for what felt like an eternity until she got the courage do drive, all the roads leading to one specific place. Home. The white-picked fence that most American’s worked for had been achieved, or rather given, to Catherine essentially overnight and she has let it go to waste. Funny how even when distracted she knew exactly how to get there.
Like Noah, she was tired of over thinking everything, and when she found herself at the front door of what used to be her and Noah’s home her mind was suspiciously quiet. It stayed that way until she used her own key to get in, getting the attention of a familiar set of paws. Kennedy seemed ecstatic by her return and for a split moment Catherine imagined it was just a regular day and that she was coming home from the airport- her pug and her wife waiting for her. Of course that wasn’t the reality.
Kennedy was a good distraction though, bringing a big smile to Catherine’s face as she babied her and petted her and hugged her because damn it this was her dog once too, even if it was for a short time. “Did you miss me?” She used her baby voice as Kennedy continued to give her dog kisses, the two interrupted by the sound of someone else in the room. From where she had bent over to pet Kennedy, Catherine looked up to find Noah and honestly, Catherine was just surprised she hadn’t changed the locks. Had she been waiting for her to come home? “Hi.” She greeted her as if nothing was wrong, getting up. “I had a key, so...” She trailed off, motioning to the set of keys in her hands which she then placed on their designated place on the table next to the door. “Hope you don’t mind.”
