Farewell My Friends
I just want to say that i’m truly grateful for spending my Saturdays with you guys. You guys have all inspired me to think differently and I would hope that I had that same impact on you guys. This program has added to my brand and has enhanced my excitement to pursue my dreams. Prior to me coming I was aware of the skill I had, but FMM was able to bring that to life. Special shoutout to COZY because those kids really pushed me out of my comfort zone ( the irony ) and challenged me to try new things. I hope for the kids I don’t see, that we can meet again as the artists that we’ve aspired to be. For those who’ll I’ll see for our performance, i’m excited to make something great out of it! To Abhita, Marat, and the TA’s you are the people who pushed me that much closer to my dreams. Thanks!
Peace in the Middle East,
NOAH SKYE
Kick Push
Part One:
Intro Verse 1 Hook 1 Verse 2 Hook 2 Verse 3 Hook 1
Part Two: This track was written by Lupe Fiasco and Soundtrakk. The beat was also produced by Soundtrakk. The beat that was sampled was by Celeste Legaspi, and the song was called Magtaksil Man Ikaw. The format of this song is very sample as seen in part one. The song is about two lovers and their rebellious lifestyle. The hook is extremely catchy and smooth. It was released from Food and Liquor pt. 1 and it was released on September 19, 2006. Kick Push is a fitting title and leaves it up for interpretation. It refers to the actual motion of skateboarding, but can also be regarding to these lovers life. I like this song because of it’s great story telling, and real life lessons. The smooth jazz also adds to the effect of looking back into the past. The intro where he’s talking adds a very natural feel. The repetition of kick push allows listeners to catch on quickly. Lastly i love the dialogue that people have in the song. The tone that he uses was very laid back and reminiscent of either a story of his own, or a story of someone else.
The Iggy Effect
I was glad to hear that this topic was one of the topics that we were allowed to talk about. I have a few things that have to be said when it regards to Iggy Azalea. The australian "hip hop" / Pop artist has been causing and attracting a lot of attention in the last year. She has come out with one the most popular singles of the year Fancy ft. Charlie XCX. This pop track was able to beat both Eminem and Drake in two hip hop and R&B categories in the Teen Choice Awards. That alone is not okay. I have no problem with white artists that want to become rappers, but I do have an issue with those who use black culture to better their career. With that being said I don't like or appreciate it when white rap artists say " Tire marks, tire marks, finish line with the fire marks When the relay starts I’m a runaway slave-master". There are so many reasons why that line itself should have taken away all the awards she's ever won. Her excuse was that she was admiring one of Kendrick Lamar's songs that talked about being a slave. She couldn't be that ignorant enough to say that the content that she was talking about was not okay. She needs find her own identity instead of trying to take a whole culture of blacks, and then on top of that taking away awards from those blacks who have clearly made better albums.
The 57th Grammy
2014 was a rough year in music but that's no excuse for the results to be inaccurate as well. With that being said not only were the winners sometimes questionable, but the NOMINEES!!! My biggest issue is the lack in acknowledgement in the album Yeezus that was made by Kanye West (in case you didn't know). The reasons why that album wasn't recognized stills baffles me to this moment. Here are my reasons why... first I would like to rule out two nominees that could have been easily replaced by Yeezus. The first would be the easily angered mom and wife hater Eminem. His music has had it's time and although his popularity is still at all time highs, his music production and stories mimic the same unoriginal musical sonics that it has been since Recovery. The second album that was so surprising and insulting was Blac Hollywood made by Wiz Khalifa. I don't have to really comment much on that alone. Now there are a couple of reasons why Kanye should have been nominated. The first reason is because of the visions that Kanye had even before he created his project. The album was a progresses Alternative Hip Hop project that broke down the norms of what a hip hop album should sound like. It also threw people off guard because Kanye wasn't known for making electronic based Hip Hop. With all of that being said the grammys shouldn't have disregarded one of the most creative and different projects of not only 2014 but over ten years in the music industry.
Hey! My name is Noah Walker and I'm a junior at Brooklyn Friends School. I'm an aspiring artist who produces and raps. I'm 17 years old and I live in Brooklyn, New York! From the age of ten, I've developed an interest in creating music, which began with experimenting and familiarizing myself with Garageband. Currently, I've found myself experimenting with a wide range of programs that help create the vast amount of ideas in my head. My style ranges from Hip Hop based productions to electronic/dance music. I find it very important to be able to create a wide range of music so that the music I make can affect a wider range of people. Prior to 2015 I was only producing music because I didn't yet have the confidence in rapping or writing content that was personal to me. But as of late most of the songs I produce I try to write just to keep practicing my writing skills. This track is one of my prouder tracks that I think shows a quick glimpse of where i'm at when it comes to my style. With that being said every style comes with some sort of inspiration. My top three inspirations are Kanye West, Travis $cott, and Kid Cudi. They all effect me in the way I see my music going. I'm so stoked to meet all of you guys!! We're about to do big things!!!
