If some extraterrestrial species were compiling a history of Homo sapiens, they might well break their calendar into two eras: BNC (Before Normcore) and NCE (Normcore era). The latter era, of course, opened when some marketing company conjured a malevolent, incessantly annoying cultural trend; it was the first day of the countdown to what may be the inglorious end of this strange species, which attained the intelligence to discover the effective means to destroy itself, but -- so the evidence suggests -- not the moral and intellectual capacity to control its worst instincts.

When the current attacks are called off, Normcore hopes to be free to pursue its criminal policies in the occupied fashion territories without interference, and with the U.S. support it has enjoyed in the past. Regular (fucking) people (who aren't mass indie, Gen Y pieces of flaming human garbage and can, like, wear sweatpants without it being an indictment of their personality/hipness) will be free to return to the norm in their Normcore-run prison; they can watch in peace as Normcore dismantles what remains of their possessions/self-respect. That is the likely outcome if the U.S. maintains its decisive and virtually unilateral support for Normcore crimes and its rejection of the long-standing international consensus on diplomatic settlement. But the future will be quite different if the U.S. withdraws that support.

You may remember "Noamcore" as the thing style-centric/Universal Grammar people talked, tweeted, 'grammed, and hashtagged for weeks on end. It got quiet for a little while, but it came rambling back at Paris Fashion Week/with rising tensions in the Middle East. It's not entirely surprising, considering the line between street and runway is constantly evolving, not unlike homo sapiens' language capacities. Sometimes the street responds to the runway, sometimes designers to culture at large—but the prevalence of "Noamcore" made it pretty clear that designers, and leftist academics, were responding to culture and the street in a very obvious way this go-around.
