“It’s good to see a familiar face,” Chris said as he entered the room. Sitting down in the seat next to her, he couldn’t help but look her over. Might’ve appeared a bit worse for wear, but she was definitely still her. 

Still Mika. 

And while a familiar face should’ve been pleasant, he wasn’t one to forget the sudden way she abandoned the ship. Biting down on his tongue, he chastised himself since she didn’t abandon the ship. She was suddenly reassigned and that was Starfleet’s right. Even if it he didn’t understand the purpose of moving a historian from his ship in the middle of a war. 

Never the less, he ran his tongue across his teeth before smiling slightly. “Gotta say, I a little curious about how you wound up here though.”

Mika sat by Charlie’s bedside in sickbay, watching her like a hawk. She’d been returned to the ship only a few days ago- that away mission went totally wrong. Mika hadn’t been able to go and now she wished she would have been there. Charlie could have died after that riot started. Doctor McCoy said she was stable and would recover but Mika had to make sure. She’d brought everything Charlie would want or need in a bag, sitting by her chair. The cookies she made were almost gone. “Are you feeling any better?”  

Charlie frowned and groaned at the brightness of the medbay. It took her several moments to process Mika’s question.

“...Am I sick?” she mumbled, too tired to try and form coherent speech. She blinked blearily at Mika and frowned further. “...Who are you?”

The way eyes took note of the ring he, and many of the Trill delegation, wore to the rather important meeting of powers was something Ialen revelled in. The ring was so obviously Klingon in origin but heaven forbid anyone in the Federation ask about the matter directly. Sipping his champagne, he believed the human waiter had called it, he started to hand off the empty glass to a passing figure before taking note of his mistake.

“I mistook you for a waiter. Apologies,” he said as he looked her over, curiousity shifting into mistrust instantaneously. “Why is a Starfleet Officer here? I thought this was meant to be a peaceful meeting.”

Thrall was the best to describe the crowd as they moved along to music inside. The way it thrummed could almost be felt outside. Pressing his hand to the wall, he smiled to himself. He likes Orion. He liked seeing them happy, especially the hundred or so that made up the compound of his followers.

Taking a drag of the pipe he had been given, Sybok held in the spicy smoke for two breaths before letting it out in a chuckle. Sluggish from the drugs, he turned toward the intruder. “I was told to expect something magical but this is more than I could ever expect.”

“Why would I not?” Mika looked over at Charlie, obviously very confused by her question. “You’re great, Charlie. You’re caring and smart and loyal and funny. And you are a much better person than I could ever hope to be. Why would I not like you?” 

Charlie looked away and shrugged.

“Because I’m weak and ditzy and awkward. I talk too much and too loudly and am all around... replaceable.”

One Year Later || Closed

Charlie’s heart had broken when Mika had left the Enterprise, but she knew that it was for the best. Mika needed some time to breathe and process everything that had happened. 

it didn’t make her miss Mika any less.

So when Charlie returned to Starfleet headquarters and saw Mika for the first time in over a year, she screamed in delight and shot towards her adoptive older sister.

“MIKA!” she shouted when she was still a few yards away in order to give the woman warning. Incredibly, Charlie somehow stopped before she actually collided with the woman. When she spoke, everything come out in a jumbled, rushed mess.

“Oh my god, MIKA! Can I hug you? It’s been forever and I’ve missed you and I really wanna hug you but also I don’t know if you’re doing the touching thing right now and I don’t wanna hurt you or anything I just really REALLY missed you!”
