Noctis sighed, staring at his phone for a few moments, brow furrowed before just texting back as he listened to the argument happening in what seemed like slow motion in his new council.

Indecipherable arguments and indecipherable memes at the same time just gave him a headache.

   “You truly do not recognize me? Hmph, flesh and blood have faded over time.” Tonitrus held still, glaring at his descendant. Well, for only a few more seconds before his glare and frown turned into a bright smile. He pulled Noctis close, bringing up a hand to mess up his hair.

   “Noctis Lucis Caelum! It’s fantastic to finally meet you in the flesh! I’m proud of your progress so far! It was like yesterday you were unable to wield a sword! Now you’re vanquishing your foes! Ha!”

Noctis blinked again, standing  lightly unsteady after the battle with, well. He supposed they’d be called bandits, people unwilling to help rebuild after the World of Ruin, or just looking to take what they could from the slowly rebuilt Lucis.

“I...Tonitrus?” the king asked, as the other man ruffled his hair. With a thought he let his sword slide back into the armiger in a scatter of crystal, after defeating Ardyn and the battle he’d barely survived, he’d only been able to manage small magics at first. But they were flooding back into him slowly, growing stronger again.

“How are you um, here? And sorry. I’m used to you with a little more,” he gestured in front of his face to indicate a helmet, still a little dazed, before outright grinning, a slight blush to his cheeks. “It really is good to see you, I mean, I didn’t ever think I’d get to. In the flesh,” brow furrowing he stepped forward, cautiously poking the much older man in the chest.

Noctis opened his eyes after a long moment, and felt as if he was made of fire.  Of lightning of ice of light of power.

He gasped, eyes slamming open and for a moment they were nothing but solid light, shimmering and coalescing in his skull as he looked out over the friends already mourning him. Ignis...Ignis was touching his chest. And slowly the King made himself remember how to breath once he realized that Ignis could feel the light coming from his eyes, most likely, but not see it.

And his other friends were far too shocked to say anything.

“I was given a choice,” he said, dreamily. “My body is now the Crystal, Ignis. All its light was placed in me. I could let myself die. Or I could learn to be...different.”

As he spoke he gradually forced himself into feeling more human again. Something that would take a constant effort. His eyes became normal, though they would always shine, he felt his battered body, and with a thought, it was healed. He felt more grounded,felt himself sprawled over the throne, and flashed an uneasy smile as he gripped his adviser’s hand.

“I’m so tired. I wanted to lay down. I don’t....I don’t think I’ll get to sleep anymore, like this. But I couldn’t...I left you for ten years. When they gave me the choice. I said yes. I...I couldn’t disappoint you. I have to be a king. Your king,” he said softly. “And I missed you all. This way, this way I’ll get to be with you again.”

There are like so many possible ‘Noctis Lives’ AUs I wanna explore.

The Night King: Noctis doesn’t quite live or die. But he does sacrifice his life. He returns as a vampire, with a great amount of  power in him still all inverted from what he used to be able to do.

Noctis Reigns: Basically the Episode Ignis ending? Him learning to reign over things, to rule as king. It’d be cool interacting with a King Ravus, helping rebuild things, helping find his place in things.

The True King:  Noctis basically becomes an Astral? I’d realllly like exploring that. Maybe along with him he needs to elevate some others, to refill the now Seven’s ranks. Or like to pull them up as new incarnations of the fallen members of the Six? Like after having died they need to be replenished with a new motivating soul or something to be full.

The Masked King: During the world of ruin discovers a way to begin the magitek process on people, to keep them alive through terrible injuries, with the lessening of magic and the discovery that Troopers could begin to grow and exercise more autonomy once the Empire fell. The six wanted Noctis to die. He did. His friends put a mask and device on him, to bring him back.  It works, but he can only take the mask off for a few hours at a time, and his body had to undergo surgery, he wears ornate but relatively light armor. In this verse some troopers have been accepted as Lucian citizens, and while they’re always a bit different, they do work alongside humans and helped hold the line during the world of ruin. They may or may not look to Prompto for leadership. This is definitely inspired by a fic.

A Few Gifts|Holiday Drabble

Here’s a cute little holiday drabble involving tattoos and things with @amicitiaxx here you go! :3 Noct and Iris are awesome and super cute, both of them are so damn earnest with each other despite both worrying they’re not good enough for each other.

“This isn’t really your gift, I’ve got a few of those, but well. Since we started dating openly, and got your brother’s approval and all that. And well, you seemed to like my other tattoo enough,” Noctis grinned, rolling his left sleeve up, to bare his forearm.

The other tattoo being a bit on the nose, for him, but he’d gotten it as a memorial to those that’d given their lives for him, named and unnamed, to become the True King. To bring back the dawn. The grim symbol of Lucis itself dominated his back, with a slight alteration, the circle behind the winged skull had bold lines radiating out from it, turning it into the rising sun.

He could do that much at least. 

Smirking a little, the King showed her what he’d gotten for them. “You can touch, turned the ink into a potion before I had it done, tested it out on the last touches for my back,” he murmured.

On his forearm laid a watercolor style tattoo of the Crystal, and wrapped around it a single long stemmed iris, the bottom of the Crystal nestled neatly in the flower’s roots.

“For you know, your public gift I got you that formal body armor you were talking about but never had made, but this, I wanted this, for us,” he said softly, watching her carefully to see her reaction.

‘ you are exactly who you’re supposed to be . ’

Noctis sighed, arching his brow. “Is that right? That why I set the Astrals’ plans on their end, and well. Became your friend?” the king asked, wryly, taking a sip of the wine he’d brought for them.

Even though Ardyn had far more freedom lately, they still ate together regularly, and he eyed the much older man with a sense of curiosity.  “My life was written out before I was born. And then I changed the plan at the last minute. You really think I am who I’m supposed to be?”

“Shut up or I’ll wrap your intestines around your throat like a scarf.”

“I’ve died once, Larxene. Not exactly intimidating to me anymore, and-” he warped back, hands folded behind him, no longer needing a guide from a weapon. Not since Arden.

Not since dying and waking up out in the multiverse.

“Though you threatening to choke me with something, well. It does bring back memories, doesn’t it?” he teased, finally revealing that they’d met before. “Though I guess I did look a bit younger then. All baby faced and scared of you.”

He paused, head tilting, a sword filling his hand as he watched her, though he kept it behind her back, not threatening, just not defenseless. “Though, really, I was teasing. You really ready to go at it? Thought we’d been having a good time, these days.”
