earlier today, yana confirmed exactly what i've been saying about the college system that twst uses, which is very fun for me because i love being right :3

a direct quote being that they enter adulthood in their 2nd year at NRC ("つまり2年生で誕生日を迎えたら成人（18歳)" )

also! yuu can be any gender or age! after all, it's still yuu!

there's been a few people in the past who have tried to insist that the age in the character's bios are the age they Will turn, or that there's "no proof" that they had their birthdays throughout the story (despite it following a linear timeline where we. know time is passing. crazy concept)

so it's nice to have words of confirmation from yana herself that the bios are the age the characters are during this year's entrance ceremony in September. Those born in September are the oldest of their respective year groups, and those born in August are the youngest!

which leads me to quickly say-

Had Leona joined when he was invited to NRC, he would have been one of the youngest in his year group. his birthday falls during the summer holidays, so he wouldn't have his bday during the school year. buuut because he joined late, and was held back a year during his 2nd year... well, you get the picture. he'll be 22 a little after he graduates!

btw you can ignore the "birth years", it's my headcanon that the game is set in 2017-18 because it makes more sense to me, personally. you don't have to agree, and i don't really care if people don't

I got myself a new fountain pen! (My wallet will not forgive me.)

It's a Mahjon / Moonman A2 capless EF. I really wanted a Pilot Decimo, but there's no way in hell I could afford that, so the chinese knockoff* will have to do. I went for the Mahjon over the Jinhao solely based on word of mouth advice from a friend who has tried all three (Pilot Decimo, Mahjon A2, Jinhao 10), and insisted the Mahjon was a marked increase in quality over the Jinhao, for a few scant dollars more. Of course, the Pilot was the best of the lot, but it has a price tag to match.

After reading lots of reddit posts about the interchangeability of the nib and internal mechanisms with legit Pilot parts, I went for it.

I am pleasantly surprised!

I used Waterman's Serenity Blue ink to test it. The nib is smooth, with some feedback in cases. It's not as smooth as the steel nib on my Prera, but it's certainly better than a Platinum Preppy. As steel nibs go, it's a good make. I checked the tines at high magnification out of the box, and it came well aligned. The nib is labelled EF, but it's 0.4mm, which is similiar to the Pilot F. (I generally use Japanese F nibs or standard EF nibs, so this fit my writing perfectly.) I did have issues with skipping when I first filled it, but that's mostly because I was impatient. Letting the feed saturate fixed that.

I got a version with a clip. It doesn't interefere with my writing the way some folks on reddit led me to believe. It does reinforce that I have to hold it at a certain angle to be comfortable, but with the faceted barrel it's not hard. Storing it in a pocket with the business end of the pen outside the pocket is very strange, I don't like that. (Why didn't they put the clip at the other end? Ball points do this all the time!) I want to test how it fares loose in a pocket all day. Will it leak?

Overall, it's a good pen for the price. Until or unless I discover major issues with it, it scratches the itch for a capless without having me shell out Pilot prices.

* the difference between knockoff and homage has been fiercely debated by others and is beyond the scope of this post.

hmmm. well, I guess I could _make_ 'em. Except for the fact that I've never done it before, don't know the first thing about leatherwork, and don't have any tools, it'll be great! right?

me: searches etsy for tailoring leather.

I'm learning a bit of practical medicine. The instructor for the class asks the students to pantomine and narrate what they would do in a given situation.

I'm playing D&D: Medical Edition.

Instructor: You enter the room to see one patient lying supine, in suspected respiratory arrest.

me: I look around, is there anyone else in the room?

Instructor (secretely rolling a perception check): yes, there's one older woman who called in the emergency.

me: I enter the room. I go to the patient and check for responsiveness.

instructor (rolling a CON save): you get no response.

me: I ask the woman what happened as I check the patient's pulse and respiration.

instructor: roll persuasion on the woman, then medicine to check for a pulse
