We were in these streets today screaming "HELP NOT DEATH" to protest the murder of Marcus - David Peters by police officer Michael Nyantakyi on May 14th 2018 Marcus was a 24 year old biology teacher and 2016 graduate of Virgnia Commonwealth University. Marcus was found naked on interstate 64/95 having some kind of mental breakdown. Nyantakyi DID NOT have the capacity or apparently the training to assess that Mr.Peters was in mental distress and therefore made the decision to tase him several times and then shooting him twice in the abdomen, he died from his wounds the following day. As with most murders involving police officers, after the "investigation" Nyantakyi was found to have been justified in killing Mr.Peters. 1, it is reported that Mr.Peters lunged at the officer, even if true, how much of a definitive life or death threat did a naked Mr.Peters cause 2. This question has been asked repeatedly but what are the police training protocols in place when it comes to assessing those who may be suffering mental distress?
