WORLDBUILDING WEEK CHALLENGE ↳TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY: A Kingdom of Sun and Stars
Heavily inspired by Breath of the Wild, I’ve decided to try and merge Sci Fi/Digital Technology with medieval tech and magic.
ANCIENT TECH: by utilizing the small shard of power the Goddess Kalah left behind, the NOKEYAH built their society through the help of advanced technology that hasn’t been seen in over a millennium.
Vigilachni: basically, they’re tanks. They can collapse down into drones and that is their default form, but once they expand into a much larger form, they grow mechanical legs and can decimate people with one shot from their eyestalk.
Skybridges: Commonly referred to as Transport Towers, these were built by the RAHYA to make transport easier across nations. However, most were destroyed during the Visvarian Civil War, and so only two remain. The Sahgara Skybridge and the Mount Kala Skybridge. They can be accessed via Medallion and/or Tablet.
Stone of Ancients: A rectangular device that closely resembles a smartphone, these were once carried by every member of the Nokeyah tribe before their extinction. Glyphs were carved into it to make it a legitimate weapon as well as aid in the building of their city.
Ancient Medallion: A smaller, more portable version of the Stone, these large lotus shaped medals are often worn by the Rahya, who used the technology from the stone to recreate a less potent version. It carries the same magic and can be found all over Mount Kala.
Ancient Weaponry: By converting divine potential energy into kinetic energy, regular weapons are enhanced. Bows and Arrows, Guns, Swords, Shields, etc.
MAGIC: often underutilized due to the advent of technology, magic is a much more of a hobby/an extra weapon in their arsenal than a scholarly pursuit like the Bazkans. There are several distinct types of magic.
Inherent Magic: this is self-explanatory. Certain races like the Sahran and the Nokeyah have the blood of the gods, so abilities can be passed on via genetics. However, this inherent magic is more used as a status symbol or a sign of distinction. In the Sahran culture, magic is seen as the goddess Rahvi choosing her next life and serves as the main force behind choosing their Chieftain. Powerful Inherent magic must be unlocked through a rigorous process, of which only the Chieftain and potential candidates know.
Learned Magic: This is also semi-self explanatory. Magic, like anything in this world, can be learned. It won’t be powerful, but there have been mentions in history of powerful members of races such as the Iwoto and Rahya performing unique feats of the natural world at unnatural rates. Learned magic can’t take down opponents or decimate buildings, but it can give you a leg up in battle. At the most, it enhances the world around you cause it draws from nature.
Runic Magic: A scholarly pursuit for the members of the Bazkan Empire, this use of magic is seen as archaic and fairly understandable. It originated in a country the Bazkans colonized and then later abandoned, Runic Magic is the main force behind the Bazkan army and their arsenal. It’s exactly as it sounds. You carve a rune into something, it enhances that object’s properties. Runic Magic is often used on weaponry and armor, and when combined with other magic, can create very powerful results.
Fae Magic: Fae magic is largely unknown and unseen. It works behind the scenes in ways we can hardly imagine. Some say it can even bring you back to life. But alas, no one has ever encountered a Fae and lived, so who knows?
BAZKAN TECH: in the case of the empire, they are unable to distinguish technology from magic, and so there is little advancement. Their main source of energy is runes, and the Empire excels at what is commonly known as Arcane Magic.
RUNIC WEAPONRY: The Empire utilizes regular weapons like arrows and swords and shields, yet are uncomfortable with guns. In order to enhance these weapons, they draw upon the power of runes, carving sigils and symbols into their chosen weapon to increase the magic.
RUNIC ARMOR: Once again, the Empire utilizes incredibly strong armor, carving runes into each set in order to better protect their armies and numbers. The higher the ranking, the more runes you receive.
CANNONS: A first seen amongst the people of Visvara, Cannons are a staple of the Empire and were the main weapon used to stop the Visvarian Civil War and cement the Bazkans rule. As the Empire has grown so has their use of cannons, replacing their trebuchets until the Vigilachni replaced their cannons.
SAHRAN TECH: The Sahrans are one of the oldest races in Visvara, and the Chief who leads them into battle is a weapon all by herself. That being said, they are well versed enough in all sorts of battle methods and strategy, but favor Guerrilla Warfare.
AQUEDUCTS
WEAPONRY: Scimitars, Khopesh, Bows and Arrows, Spears, Double Handed Swords, Maces, Guns (although they are rarely used)
TRANSPORT: Sleds, Sand Foxes, Gliders (thanks to their trade treaty with the Rahya)
