iPhone 5C, Nokia, ZTE, Huawei & Android in Slovakia

I'm quite disappointed by the price of the iPhone 5c - as many people - I actually feel as if this is a cliche to say today.

In my home country most of the people use Nokia phones or Android, because iPhones are too expensive to them. This is not Asia, but Central Europe and still the notion is that Apple hardware is too expensive.

The problem is that when you do an app or a product you are very limited if you do it only for the iPhone - actually you don't have almost any local market to test the product at. If you do an iOS app then it's only for the West. If you do an Android app, then it is for the very small local market.

In any case for each product you're puzzled how to do things, since you should do a web portal, iOS app and Android app - or at least this is the idea of many people.

Actually with Android apps it's a bit difficult - I don't know that many people in Slovakia who actively install a lot of apps onto their Androids and they rather use web, so it makes more sense to do mobile friendly websites.

In the end it's all a resources thing - you don't want to spend too much resources in making an Android app just for the local market and you can't roll out with an iOS app for the launch here.

So it makes sense to make mobile friendly web portals & make an iOS app for West Europe, UK and the US.

I'm mentioning all this because I thought that if the new iPhone - the 5c would be priced at around 300euro that more people in Slovakia, Czech Republic and elsewhere would jump on the train and we'd have a reasonable market here, but that's not happening.

The current O2 offering shows ZTE phones and Huawei phones for about 150 euros! For 200 you get a nice Android phone - although with little storage, with a worse camera than the iPhone, but still - the price difference is just too huge for most people.

I've seen plenty of companies being delusional making iOS apps also for our local market, but that's kind of nonsensical - the same managers who believe that there are a lot of people with iOS devices are living in a luxury bubble in the capital. The rest - 90% of the country is still living on half the budget.

So it's more a 'status' and a 'niche' thing to make iOS apps for SR or CR.

The pricing of the current iPhones doesn't solve anything and what happens is that Android phones simply overtake the remains of the Nokia market that's been extremely huge here. At one point almost everyone had a Nokia.

But how does Nokia survive in Slovakia?

Old people - grandparents.

They need buttons and they need a simple interface.

I'm not even considering to buy my grandpa an Android phone. I'm considering to buy him a Nokia 206. Because it has a camera (he wants a camera) and large buttons.

Nokia 206 has 2.4 inch display

Last November announced cell phone by Nokia Mobiles has finally arrived, the Nokia 206. It was done with the launch of Asha 205 which is running on Nokia's Series 40 OS. Now the cell is released with the launch of Nokia 114 which is fundamental mobile for the basics mobile users. In present the mobile is available at online stores and is preparing to roll in the physical stores in some time. The handset has an affordable price and very elegant design with Nokia tag on it which increases its probability to cover more market shares. The devices is gifted with a new and innovative feature called SLAM which makes it capable of of sharing data with Bluetooth carrying devices without pairing them personally as all we have to do is touch the other mobile with ours.

This new handset, Nokia 206 features 2.4-inch supporting 65k color display which previews 240 x 320 pixels resolution. The phone is powered by Series 40 operating system. There is a Hot swap Dual SIM support given to this handset which will reduce the effort of switching off and on and uncovering and covering the hood. The handset is designed with 5-way scrolling keys. The user is provided with a 1.3megapixel camera at the back which is able to shoot VGA video. The device has all the Hot features required in todays era such as 3.5mm jack to plug music and Stereo FM with RDS. The device also have preloaded apps like Nokia Xpress Browser, Nokia Slam, Facebook and Twitter to connect socially and make friends and do unlimited chatting.

It supports various audio and video file formats with its music player and video player. When there is a need of any file transfer, the device has got Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and microUSB v2.0 for high speed data transfer. Other connectivity features are 2G network, GPRS, Email and GPS. For data storing there is a 64MB memory provided to the user which can further be extended to 32GB which is a huge space for this mobile. The phone is equipped with 1,110 mAh BL-4U battery which makes the device run 20 hours talk time and 680 hours standby.

  The Nokia 206 pictures are better than the Nokia 114 as it has got more crunchier look and joyful colors like blue, yellow, black, etc. The Nokia 206 price is Rs 3,580 at Nokia store and its available on online store for Rs 3,599.
