hi kara! :) i'm really sorry to bother you, especially since this seems like an easy fix, but i can't figure it out -- i'm using your theme 37/stones and I'm trying to get captions and tags to show up neatly underneath applicable posts. is there a simple way i can do that? if not, it's totally fine, i don't want to make you do more work haha -- i hope you're having a nice day! :)))
2) Favorite Requiem? We did the Fauré Requiem last spring and I fell in love with it. It’s amazing.
3) Piece you’ve always wanted to sing buthaven’t had the chance yet?I’ve been mildly obsessed with CarminaBurana since I saw the Community Chorus do it a few years back. If they ever doit again in the future I may have to cave and join them for a semester just tobe part of it.
4) Contemporary/modern, or classical?Can I have both? Please? (If I absolutelyhad to pick I suppose contemporary but…)
5) Top 5 composers?Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, JohnRutter, André Thomas, Felix Mendelssohn/Moses Hogan (They’re basically tied shhhh)(Honestly I could easily list like 10 composers that I’m in love with oh mygod.)
6) Top 5 LEAST favorite composers?I honestly don’t dislike many but. Benjaminfucking Britten. I think he’s written lovely things but I hate singing them. Wedid his Ceremony of Carols in the fall of 2013 and I was not alone in wantingto resurrect him so we could strangle him. I think he had a huge grudge againstaltos. It killed me.
7) Food or drink you always have on concertday?Lots and lots of water before, tea after. Itypically forget to eat until after the concert whoops…
8) Any other concert rituals?I tend to pace around whatever our “backstage”area is until about 5 minutes before we go on because I have too much energy tosit still in our green room. And since I joined the Board of Directors, I’vebeen going out with them for drinks after to celebrate.
9) Robes or concert black?Robes purely because I hate all-black forconcerts. (Unless I can pick a third option of what my choir does- jewel tonedshirts over black bottoms.)
10) How many concerts have you sung this year? One main concert in each the spring andsummer plus a volunteered thing on the 4th of July. And about 4 “singouts” at nursing homes… So 3-7?
11) Thoughts on choreography in choir? It’s cute for elementary/ middle schoolchoirs. But for adult choirs it’s typically a good source of second-hand embarrassment.I hate doing choreography nowadays. (And I’m pretty sure like half the Choralewould walk out of rehearsal if Leslie ever tried to get us to do some.)
12) Piece you didn’t think you’d like beforeyou sang it, but ended up really enjoying it?When we did the Fauré last spring, I wasgenuinely terrified of it. The Introit was really difficult (for me at least) -I struggled all the time with controlling my breath enough to maintain properpitch and dynamics. And it took me a few weeks to warm up to the othermovements (and the piece as a whole). But now it’s one of my favorite things tolisten to and I’m really glad I had to opportunity to perform it.
13) Piece that means a lot to you?How Can I Keep From Singing (specificallythe Ronald Staheli arrangement that theChorale performed last Christmas)
14) Piece you’resinging right now in choir? The twopieces I’m most excited about doing this semester are Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium and André Thomas’ African Noel.
15) Funniestthing you’ve heard in a choir rehearsal? So manythings. Dr. Jim, our pianist, is a master of sarcasm and he’s constantlycausing mild distractions and making everyone crack up.One time,Leslie was working with the basses and she said “C’mon guys! Give me the D! Iwas the D!” and my friend and I looked at each other across the room and westarted giggling. We’recurrently doing a pecan sale so there have been some “nut” jokes. (When theorder comes in around Thanksgiving, we store everything in the music libraryand we start calling it the Nut House.)My choir isalways hilarious, honestly.
