Nom Banh Jok

When you’ve been m.i.a on your blog for serval weeks to months and your readers ask you where you’ve been……..

Basically travelling the seas and filling my belly up with food I’d replied!

Just when you think it couldn’t get any better than this; life knocks you sideways and spins your world upside and boom you’re exactly where you were suppose to be… Eating bowls of vegetarian Cambodian laksa - known as nom banh jok.

Nom banh jok is a quintessential Khmer dish, loved by locals and tourists alike. The dish, consists of rice noodles topped with a green fish gravy and heaps of fresh green beans, bean sprouts, banana flower, cucumbers and other greens. The noodles are laboriously made in the provinces and delivered to the local markets early each morning, selling at less than one dollar a bowl, by the end of it you’ll be on your second bowl and maybe then you’ll be brave enough to chow down a hairy tarantula.. Who knows :)

So If you’re ever going to travel to Cambodia, this is the one dish that you need to add to your bucket list of tarantulas, amok, ban chao - you name it.
