Your CDs are obsolete.
Yes they are. So are your records, your 8-tracks, your casette tapes, your VHS tapes, your DVDs and your Blu-rays. In the current world of on-demand streaming media which can be had for as little as eight bucks a month, there is no reason for you to have a collection of physical media. Get rid of it. If you want the files, rip them onto a hard drive or flash drive and then throw them all out.
We get it. You paid money for those. But all they’re doing now is taking up space and gathering dust and wasting your time anytime you try to find something. We aren’t sponsored by Netflix or Hulu or anything crazy, but those are much better options.
We also understand the compulsion to save them for posterity. Maybe someday Netflix or Hulu will go out of business, and you’ll need a physical copy to show your great-great-great-great grandspawn.
Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Even if it did, somebody else somewhere has an archive of that particular movie or show or song. Even in the zombie apocalypse, somebody somewhere has a bunker full of old King of the Hill tapes. If it isn’t a home movie of your family, then you aren’t personally responsible for preserving it throughout history.
So get rid of your physical media. Donate it to thrift shops or better yet, throw it in the trash. Nobody wants it. You don’t need it.
