Even if, hypothetically, he won, he would continue to enact and promote policy that continues the degradation of Black people and peoples Indigenous to the Americas. He was an author of the Three-Strikes Bill, also known as the 1994 Crime Bill, which doubled the incarceration rate, a big reason so many Black people and people Indigenous to the Americas are incarcerated today (Eisen and Chettiar 2016). No, I will not accept his authorship of the bill as a “mistake” (United States Presidential Debate on October 22, 2020). You don’t accidentally enslave millions of people.
