hyeon was raised from a young age to be a hunter and showed extreme promise from a very young age. being the direct descendant of one of the original hunters, the council had a close eye on her until they finally took her in when she was thirteen years old. she was highly favored and was paired with mi-yeong ryu, another potential that showed extreme promise. when celine was recruited, the three of them proved to be the most powerful and promising out of all of the trainees.
however, when she was seventeen, there was a terrible bullying incident that hyeon was on the receiving end of. it was extremely devastating and caused her extreme psychological distress, which caused patterns to be revealed on hyeon's skin for the first time and revealed a secret that she herself hadn't even known: she was half demon. horrified, she ran off to be alone and someone told the elders. within a few hours, her entire world had been yanked out from beneath her. they cast her out and even went so far to exile her from south korea, telling her that she was poison and that she was destined to be evil. they said that if she was ever seen in south korea again, she would be killed on sight.
hyeon traveled around for a while, alone and terrified. she crossed a criminal group, but instead of being harmed or killed, she was taken in after she impressed the leader. he took her in and began training her in his business, looking at her like a daughter. she went with it for a while, believing herself to be unworthy of anything better. however, as she began embracing her demonic side, she began realizing that she didn't have to be like this. she didn't have to be "evil."
she took over the empire and then dismantled it from the inside, embracing both her hunter and demon sides in equal measure. she began training herself on how to use both sets of powers, realizing that there was a strength in embracing her entire self rather than trying to hide half of herself.
when rumi was exposed on live television, hyeon jumped on a plane that night. she didn't care that she was technically exiled from the country, she was going to help that young woman one way or another. her only thought was, fuck the hunter council and fuck their archaic ways. she refused to allow a repeat of her own experience.
