Lately I’ve been doing a gradual clean out of the house and with some things I no longer want or need I post them for sale online. A few weeks ago I had cleaned out the store room and found some shelving units I no longer needed and posted them, and today a lady came to buy them. While we were loading her car we got to talking as she was telling me her intentions for the shelves which involved her opening her own daycare centre. Normally, with my online sales and I’m sure many people share the same type of experience, you say “hi”, you exchange the item for the money and everyone is on their way. Rarely do things turn into a full conversation, but today that its what happened, and I have to say it was quite nice making a new acquaintance. I hope our paths cross again at some point. Today’s random act of kindness: befriending a stranger.
In today’s modern society we have been taught that a stranger is a bad thing, but in other people’s realities you’re a stranger too. Are you a bad person? No? Then why is someone else? I think we need to be more open to receiving other people, their views and their ideas. We have built walls around ourselves and it’s high time we tear them down, not that they should have even been built in the first place (but that’s another issue). So I encourage you to say “hello” to that person walking by, offer your help to someone who looks lost, because the only difference between a stranger and a new friend is as simple as contact and the exchange of a bit of information. Who know’s your new best friend could be waiting out there!
