How to be a good customer. For beginners.
1. Don't steal, duh. You're not sneaky if you steal in the fitting room or the bathroom, either.
2. Put things back where you found it (unless it's something that didn't belong there in the first place). Pick up things you knocked over (if there's a hanger, hang it up). If you must put things where they don't belong (aka, it's a big store), put it somewhere that's blatantly obvious. Or give it to an associate. Don't hide it for associates to find later.
3. Don't leave things strewn around the fitting room, and don't leave dump carts.
4. Don't come in to shop five minutes before closing, unless absolutely necessary. And leave when it's time to leave.
5. If you break or spill something, tell an associate. You're not going to have to pay for it. If it's a big mess/is sticky, don't try to pick it up yourself. You might make it worse.
6. Don't be rude when cashiers ask about the store credit card. The associates have to do it, and most of them don't like to push the credit card, either.
7. Put your cart back, especially when you're in the parking lot.
8. Fold the clothing you've looked at on the table after you've looked at it. Don't rummage, and don't hide other things in there.
9. Most likely, the price is what's on the tag. It doesn't hurt to ask (it doesn't hurt to ask for anything), but don't get mad if the associate says that's the price.
10. Don't yell at associates for a store's/company's questionable policies. It's not their fault.
11. Advice column! Load your coupons/app/e receipt ahead of time. Cell service often sucks. If you have it, have your physical receipt at hand, when you're about to return an item. Many stores can look up the receipt in a variety of ways, too (the card you used, rewards systems, etc). Returning something without a receipt sometimes requires an ID, depending on the store.
12. Don't allow your kid to carry a new toy around the store, only to tell them they can't have it at the register. 😠 😡
13. Don't let your kid run around the store.
14. Don't go shopping at a non-essential store when it's clearly past a kid's bedtime. That's just bad parenting. Hmm, I wonder why two year old Timmy is screaming when you're shopping for clothes at eight o'clock at night. *Side eye*
