Since I’m on a non-consumer kick, I thought I would share another idea that I use around my house. Before you think I’m completely going over board, I still use paper towels for some mess clean ups (rewashing rags after cleaning up a pet mess is still a little hard for me to get through), but I have reduced that expenditure somewhat by making a rag bag that I hang in my kitchen. I have one for cooking rags and one for cleaning rags. To reuse an old t-shirt for a rag or shopping bag: Cut off the sleeves (you can sew a pocket on the front of the bag, using the sleeve if you want). Cut off the neck ribbing to make the top opening larger. Turn over the edges, and using a stretch or zigzag stitch, hem the edges to the sleeves and the edge of the neck. Turn the shirt inside out and sew the bottom shut. Turn it right side out and hang it somewhere convenient. Large shirts are good laundry and shopping bags, small make good rag bags.
