What is your all time favourite fic you’ve read on ao3?

this is a huge question. i've been staring at this in my inbox for days bc i didn't know where to start.

i know it's probably not what you're looking to hear, this being a jikook blog and all, but here are some of the fics i've gone back to the most over the years across different fandoms:

drarry fic called 'what we pretend we can't see', yes, even in these times where harry potter is tainted by all the jkr shit, for me, anyway. there's something i find really comforting about this fic! every year without fail i get the urge to reread it over christmas, i don't know why. it has a great, engaging plot, i 100% believe in these versions of the characters, and the way the relationship develops is just so engaging to me.

wangxian fic called 'hunters seeking solid ground' by attila. now, wangxian is a treasure trove of exceptional fic. you can find stuff for all tastes, all moods, all headcanons. this fic just has something so incredibly tender. if you've read any of my fics, you'll know i'm a sucker for that intimacy of sleeping next to someone, the softness, and i'm also a sucker for writing exhausted, burned out people finding refuge in someone. this fic is this turned up to one thousand.

anything, really anything, but especially 'linger in the sun' by etymologyplayground. also wangxian. the love they feel for each other in this fic reaches out of the screen and chokes me. i just. recommend this to everyone. forever. everyone and forever.

all my jikook recs are either here or will be here, but here are some non jikook but bangtan recs.

worldwide lonesome by loindexter: yoonjin. seriously so fucking incredible. the way jin's loneliness bleeds out of every word, fucking hell. this fic is basically why i'm into yoonjin--it opened my eyes forever.

kiss me hard before you go by 777335: sope childhood friends to lovers!!!!! just so sweet. i've read it a few times and it always leaves me with a huge smile and a full heart.

24 hours by trulyfine: more sope. this yoongi, man. the way i remember lines from this fic that make me want to scream. the way this person writes him, the author's voice is so strong and memorable. plus, the inherent romance of laundromats.

same damn hunger: some classic, excellently executed sope friends with benefits, pining while fucking deal. will stomp on your heart.

imprints (for the boys in the back) by pineconepickers: if you only ever read one namjin, fucking trust me, it should be this. then again, if you read this, you will definitely read everything else this author has ever written, because fucking hell. this ripped my heart out. i wanted to slap jin. there's a sequel, and it's even worse, angst that really wrings you dry. love to fucking death.

the universe needs more of you by attilathehun: my first namseok, and i was obsessed with it. you become just as infatuated with hoseok as namjoon is, and it's all just an amazing ride.

Hello, pal! Thank you for creating this blog! I find it very intriguing what my favourite writer’s read. And yours recommendations are so great! Besides that, I wanted to ask you what things/tags you usually avoid in fics? What tags you avoided but found yourself enjoying reading later?

before answering, a very important disclaimer: obviously, my personal opinions have no bearing on other people finding these tropes/characters/plots enjoyable. i'm not casting any judgement on any of it. I'm not saying any of the things I mention are bad. they are simply not my preference!

the answer to this question of course varies depending on the ship and fandom, so I'll focus on jikook for this one.

for jikook, I avoid reading (and writing):

age swap. I think I might have read one or two with this trope from writers i like, but it's really not my thing. especially because the dynamic of these two plays so heavily on the hyung/dongsaeng social expectations.

age difference. I like my jikook quite close in age. plus, see point above.

CEO/chaebol aus. I just find it hard to empathise with rich people, hand on heart. again, I have read a couple fics that I liked with this trope, but it takes a lot for me to be convinced!

enemies to lovers. again, hard for me to buy these two as enemies. i have read fics that did it well, but i tend to prefer other dynamics for them!

most fic where jk is an asshole and remains so throughout. it's just a huge leap for me and I don't tend to find it enjoyable.

too weak-hearted for dead dove, too soft to read toxic relationship, jealousy, divorce, unhappy ending, cheating between jikook.

most omegaverse, these days. I have read a bunch previously, and I'm sure I'll read more eventually, so it's not a hard no, but there's just such a massive amount out there it's hard to keep up. also, I have reservations about some popular tropes in this genre, so i tend to read very specifically.

E rated fic. I don't avoid it completely, but I do often skip sex scenes entirely, depending on mood, characterisation, and tags.

about your second question, the answer is actually omegaverse as well. i hardly ever read any before getting into jikook, and here i just went with the flow, because there's such volume i had to see what it was all about. I've also read a few hybrids fics for the same reason.

I find myself enjoying long fics these days as well! the amount of 100k+ word fics in this ship is entirely disproportionate to any other I've read before. i had to kind of train myself for it, but it turns out I do like just sinking into a super long fic once in a while and just letting it take me into some other world completely, like the grim reaper's love game fic I just recced.

so I suppose you can take this as a guide for things you are not likely to/ you will rarely find on this blog!
