Nona Garcia.
Nona Garcia (Filipina, b. 1978), Crater, 2017. Oil on cement, 42 x 60 in.
Nona Garcia's artwork reminds me of death. She used an X-ray machine to create this piece.
The artwork itself is symmetrical in composition making it look mesmerizing. The animals' bones remind me of death, the circle of life. Every year thousands of animals are killed for various reasons which can most of the time lead to their extinction. We humans may not know it but we are slowly killing the animals that live with us on this planet.
On the topic of death, it is a topic we don't really talk about. Some of us are afraid of death but some of us aren't even bothered by it. Overall, it's a difficult topic to talk about but seeing it in an artwork is very interesting.
