I found this upon further reviewing Rise and Decline, and realized that this is a far more inclusive and holistic definition of segregation. Rather than solely measuring the ratio of different ethnicities within a given population, this measure works on five axes: “evenness, exposure, concentration, centralization, and clustering."

I found this document shortly after my presentation, but had yet to review it until the first week of December. The research and thesis involved directly mirror my own, and provide a rigid evolution for my own research to follow. It offers a great history of Austin's residential developments of which I was previously unaware, and follows my own foal in comparing Austin as a whole with the rest of the country, though not specifially East Austin.

Rise and Decline led me to this document, describing the creators of my chosen Index of Dissimilarity. While not describing the mathematical calculation of the index (which is easily accessible, from the hated Wikipedia), the document describes the driving forces behind the index's conception and provides examples of the index applied to other cities. Interestingly, the text describes a consistently high index of dissimilarity, so a high segregation rate, in all cities assessed.

View Document This document is not currently available to me. However, I would use it to find the Indices of Dissimarity with the 109 cities, and compare those with Greater Austin's and East Austin's, if neither are included in the text.

This is the original document I used to define segregation in East Austin, and find other areas throughout the U.S. where the definition also applies. It caused a transition from inductive work with vast amounts of data to a deductive work from larger pools, but with less data-tabulation. Rather than trying to draw trends from raw data, I started using Rise and Decline to define trends I sought in other American cities. 

With further work, I intend to replace this with Massey and Dodson's five dimensions of residential segregation; they are far more inclusive of various elements, unlike this current one-dimensional measure.
