Document: The Rise and Decline of the American Ghetto
Full Document
D. Cutler, E. Glaeser, and J.Vigdor, “The Rise and Decline of the American Ghetto.” Journal of Political Economy. 17 Nov. 2014.
This is the original document I used to define segregation in East Austin, and find other areas throughout the U.S. where the definition also applies. It caused a transition from inductive work with vast amounts of data to a deductive work from larger pools, but with less data-tabulation. Rather than trying to draw trends from raw data, I started using Rise and Decline to define trends I sought in other American cities.
With further work, I intend to replace this with Massey and Dodson's five dimensions of residential segregation; they are far more inclusive of various elements, unlike this current one-dimensional measure.
