Mahatma Gandhi used the word Satyagraha for the first time on September 11, 1906. Satyagraha means to insist on truth or to stand firm on truth. Gandhiji wanted a new word for his campaign against apartheid in South Africa. He organized a competition for this, which again came out the word of satyagraha. Satyagraha for Gandhi was more than non-violence or passive resistance.
