If you’re thinking “Wow! These are cool and shiny! I wonder if they have any ideas of how the battles against these cool and shiny bugs would go.”
Then you’re in luck because I do have ideas about how the battles against these cool and shiny bugs would go!
Writing this assuming Pikmin 2 mechanics
Adult Decorated Cannon Beetle
As an obstacle:
Lives at the top of a pile of rocks or a tree stump or something
If you come in a certain range it’ll start shooting rocks in the air at you
This, as you can imagine, makes it very hard to get through that part of the stage
And there’s an area beyond that you’ll want to get to
There are shelter spots as you climb up, go fight that bug
Actually fighting the thing:
Fires a volley of rocks into the air instead of shooting them along the ground. They land one at a time wherever you’re standing. Swarming pikmin to the left or right and running away should keep them safe.
Can be defeated like a normal cannon beetle..
But significantly more effective is getting one of the rocks to fall on its back - that will do damage on its own and leave it stunned longer
If you’re really persistent, you could probably kill it with just a captain that way. But after climbing all the way up would you have the time?
drops a cool treasure i guess i didn’t really think about that part
Adult Arctic Cannon Beetle
As an obstacle:
A lot smaller than a normal cannon beetle.
Exists solely to be annoying.
Sits on a path and shoots snowballs at you
Could almost be classified as a normal enemy except that killing it is usually a multiple day project
Actually fighting it:
Same as a normal cannon beetle except it shoots snowballs. It’s a lot easier to get the timing to stun it though
After you hit it a few times it gets up and flies away. It has wings did i mention that?
It might drop a 5 or 10 pellet for that
You’ll find it again somewhere else on the map and if you kill it there then it’s dead good job. maybe it drops nectar? or sprays? some reward for your trouble.
I meant to have a bunch of Louie Faces Trials And Gets Real Tired Of Facing Trials. At least one of them was supposed to be paralleling Olimar teaching Louie to wrap a sprained wrist with Louie doing it himself now, and another was him sharpening his knife in a way that hopefully conveys just how sick of the planet he is at that point.
Actually I did draw that one -
...I never finished all of ‘em to where I was happy with them, so I just kept going without them.
I left off with... Louie sitting up in a tree? Yeah he comes down and there are a bunch of dweevils in his camp trying to steal his things. Dunno what they were doing on the surface. Maybe they smelled good food or somethin shfjsfs.
Louie chases them off back to the cave they came from, but doesn’t bother to attack them any because they’re fast, he’s tired, and most of them aren’t worth cooking anyway. Once they’re gone he just goes to sleep. Because stars know he just does not have the patience or energy for anything else at this point.
But some time in the next few days Louie comes back from whatever he was doing that day late, and finds that dweevils had come back and stolen lots of things but most importantly the Flare Canon.
And.. that’s about all poor Louie can take.
So right then and there, in the middle of the night, he takes his knife and follows those dweevils into that cave.
Impulsive anger only takes him so far though. Soon he’s too far, too lost to get back up, so what can he do but keep going?
By the time he reaches the bottom he is exhausted in every way he could be and also hungry
Pikmin is like “This is a world that can stand on it’s own BUT there’s also space for you to do your own thing. Your choice go wild.” and I love that about it. I cherish games like that.
Have some Emperor Bulblaxes! and a few headcanons
These guys lend themselves really well to being semi-aquatic I think. Burying yourself for camouflage is a very aquatic creature thing to do. Sit in lake and attack.
But I think it’d match up better with the game for them to just go looking around during/after a rainstorm for a good puddle, so they can bury themselves in the mud and wait for it to dry. So they’d definitely have a reliance on water or a rainy climate, but I’m not sure if that exactly counts as semi-aquatic..?
Also! leaf litter camouflage. I’ve seen turtles bury themselves in leaf litter and Emperor Bulblaxes are... sort of the same shape I guess?
Just please consider an Emperor Bulblax covered in Skitter Leafs. They want a ride. or the extra protection who knows there are plenty of benefits to being on riding terms with a big carnivore.
So it’s.. not looking like I’m gonna be able to finish Wistful Wanderer. I got stuck on a part in the middle and lost motivation. That’s the way it goes i guess, can’t say I wasn’t expecting it.
But! the good news! is I have what happens scripted out! So if anyone is still interested I can just tell what happens.
I don’t know a thing about your little blue bowtie pik, but I love them already
thank you! they don’t have a name or anything they just. showed up as a joke a few times with a friend who isn’t on tumblr. I put the bowtie on them and their fate as a character was sealed.
Do me a favor and look up "flight rising ridgebacks". It's a dragon breeding game, and this species's males have VERY pointy noses. ... Said pointy noses may or may not have something to do with my completely red one named "steve" :3
