Good news, I'm going to Noosa to train on course in the morn. Bad news, I'm waking up at 4:30AM to do it. You better not rain on me.

'Strength training'
I love squats and planks. (Trying some reverse psychology on myself. Not sure it's working)
Hell hath no fury like seven 300m hill repeats!! Olympic (distance) training starts today.
Race recap for Sunshine Coast 70.3 It's done. The day was perfect, a little bit of a swell, but not much. There was a decent head wind on the bike, but you expect that. IM is trialling some new rolling start systems here. They've had a couple of tragedies of late, so it's good they're trying new things. The idea with the system is you self nominate what zone you start in based on your swimming time and then they send you out in waves of 6. So, if you're looking to do the 1.9 in 40mins, you'd be going off at the front of Zone 3 (40-45min). The problem with all this of course is that they don't give you a start time for your wave. So, you're expected to wait on the starting line for 20-30 minutes until you're up. I HATE TOEING THE LINE. Especially when you're sitting there waiting to swim. Too much time to think. Too much time to second guess. I missed my overall target time by 18 seconds. Now, I'm ok with that. However, I would rather have missed a time by 10 minutes than by 17 seconds. I could have found more than 17 seconds out there on the day. To be completely honest, I should have done much better than I did. I trained harder, I was in better condition. I even recovered better, I had a nutrition plan--but it just didn't click for me. What went wrong? I'm still not sure. I felt good until I started my nutrition plan. It consisted of one bottle of endura for the first hour (40g of carbs) and winners bar (37g of carbs). Second hour was water, another winners bar and a bonk breaker (both almost 40g). I got through the bonk breaker and water but by that point I couldn't handle anything else in my stomach because it was so unsettled. Third hour was meant to be Endura and dates and apricots and while I got the endura down, I only could force some of the dates and apricots in. By the time I got off the bike, I felt like I needed to vomit--it was painful and I didn't think I could finish the run. In fact, I almost dropped out, such was the pain in the gut. I pushed on, and took a gel at the first aid station and took on some water--the pain gradually subsided and would come back and on for the first hour. I stayed away from the endura on the run and took another gel at the second hour. What would I do differently?--I'd install a torpedo drink system on the bike (the kind that sits between the aero bars) I think I swallowed a bit of air taking the endura in. That first winners bar was stale. It was very hard to get down--I would have tossed it and picked up something at the aid station. I really wanted to break 6hrs. I thought that would be fairly easy given my training--but I missed that mark by 17 seconds. If I had it to do over, I would have pushed through a couple of those aid stations faster and maybe have sped up through transition to find that time. I honestly think that's it for me for the longer distances for a while. I don't feel any pressing need to get out there an try it again. I'm really looking forward to Noosa in early November as it's my favourite Olympic. I may do the training for the 70.3 again to get my core fitness right for the season...but I really don't think I'm going to do it again any time soon. Thanks again for all of your support! Keen to hear your thoughts.
Noosaville
We made it safely to the tri haven of Noosa overnight. Incredible spot if you're waver in this part of the world. I got a chance to get out on the bike course this morn (with a couple hundred of my closest friends!) there's a great incline about 12kms in...it's about a 5% grade...but it goes for a km or two. That's going to be fun on Sunday. What'll be funner (is that a word) will be the corresponding decline on the way back into town at about the 30 km mark. I hit over 70kph going down this morn--and I'm a chicken. I'm told the pros can get up around 100kph!! Followed the ride with a swim--only 15 mins...now breakfast and off to the pool with the kiddies. Life is good. (Sorry Ross...ride was an hour...I had to see that hill!!)
