it was painful — to be stuck with her thoughts, to know that she was the only surviving member of her family, how their expressions of terror were etched into her memory as they'd been systematically taken out by her kidnapper, a man she didn't fear, instead her feelings leaned more apathetic, uncaring what he did to her, at least she could feel something. nora had been tossing and turning, the stitches from the wounds she'd acquired during the worst night of her life irritating her and the lack of sound beside her own breathing and sighing putting her on edge.
"jason," nora called out, irritation evident in her tone, "i erm... i can't, um, sleep." the struggle to articulate herself and what she wanted made her seem to be much more fragile than she ever wanted to be viewed. "have i done something to upset you?"
