(NSU Newsroom--April 17, 2015)---Below is a statement from Norfolk State University Interim President and CEO Eddie N. Moore, Jr., about a recent faculty meeting held on campus to brief the university community about enrollment projections:

“A meeting was held with Norfolk State University faculty on Thursday to continue the dialogue with the university community about the impact of potential enrollment shortfalls on the operating budget for the upcoming 2016 fiscal year.

Norfolk State is not operating at a deficit. Not only is the campus compliant at both the federal and state levels, the administration anticipates ending the fiscal year in a solid financial position. The actions are being discussed so that we can responsibly plan for the future—this includes our entire campus operation, as we have taken a hard look at all potential outcomes.

A few of the measures that have been evaluated include right-sizing adjunct and part-time faculty positions. In addition, we will review the need to fill vacant positions.   Decisions have not been finalized. Several committees that include our students, faculty and staff have met to discuss how the university can operate more efficiently, as a result of a potential decline in enrollment.

We are a fully accredited institution with outstanding students, faculty and staff.We have provided an exceptional educational experience for students for nearly 80 years and will continue that mission in the years to come.”
