Norma Jean Mortenson (the future Marilyn Monroe) on the day of her first wedding to James Dougherty in 1942.
The ceremony took place on June 19, 1942, when the future film star was only 16 years old, in order to avoid being sent to an orphanage after her guardians moved.
In the photo, she is wearing a traditional white dress with a veil and holding a small prayer book with a cross in her hands.
The marriage to Dougherty lasted until 1946, after which she began her modeling career and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe.
