Artist Statement

Hi I’m Samantha Jane.

Self-taught amateur artist, using acrylic paints, charcoal & ink creating images, paintings and illustrations. Each piece has significant meaning. Art is what I do when I’m still, what keeps me still.

From an early age I showed ability to draw while Nan painted her porcelain dolls. Nan bought me my first how to draw books, paints & brushes bring out my creativity side. As I got older I lost my Nan along with my Grandfather in the same year. After then I formed my own love for painting, finding time to myself.

Influencing me after then was one of Australia’s best artist Norman Lindsay with sumptuous nudes, along with fashion magazines such as vogue finding striking strong beautiful women as references.

I would say my work thus far is more influenced by the female sense of self, and how to decipher and negotiate that sense of self in society and among others.

Still learning to be the artist I want to become.
