On this Christmas Day, I’m visiting family in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, which means I had to check in on one of my favorite vintage eateries in the Tar Heel state. RJ’s Place is a former Tastee Freez, the chain of ice-cream stands that began its march across America in 1950. There were thousands of locations by the late 1950s, and the chain became a trusted roadside presence, like Dairy Queen. There are only a few dozen Tastee Freez locations left, and this is, of course, no longer one of them, but it is a beautifully preserved original Tastee Freez building. It’s Christmas, so it was closed, but it was a gift to have RJ’s all to myself. #retrologist #northcarolinaliving #northcarolinaphotographer (at Rj's Place) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJPVIMKlUNK/?igshid=1gh3bdy97sgt1
