How to build a world based on Sápmi
Please note: I am not from Sápmi myself and have researched the following information. If I have presented anything incorrectly, I would appreciate your comments.
Sápmi lies mostly north of the Arctic Circle and spans four countries:
It is not a separate nation, but rather a cultural and geographical region. Sápmi is home to the Sámi, the indigenous people of the region.
Very vast, sparsely populated landscapes. Tundra, forests, lakes, and fjords (especially in Norway)
Cold winters with lots of snow, short, mild summers
Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in winter
Reindeer, moose, arctic foxes
Plants are adapted to the harsh climate (e.g., mosses, lichens, dwarf birches). Mainly conifers: pines, spruces, but also aspens.
Okay, now we know that. Which TS4 world is well suited for this?
Find a world with lots of water. And one that has an open, mountainous landscape (or at least hills). I initially thought of Moonwood Mill, but Brindleton Bay could also work, or Granite Falls. Maybe Innisgreen or Copperdale? It's up to you. I decided on Gibbi Point. There are some large plots of land, plenty of water (for fishing, swimming, canoeing), and it snows in winter anyway.
How can I transform the world?
Two things are absolutely essential: Blowtorch Mod https://www.patreon.com/posts/blowtorch-for-ep-140567764 by simverses, so you can clear the world from all objects, and TOOL Mod https://www.patreon.com/posts/t-o-o-l-public-28887948?l=de by twistedmexi, so you can place your own/new objects. (I assume you are familiar with the basics.) And don't forget MCCC https://deaderpool-mccc.com/downloads.html! So you can produce as much snow as you need. After all, Sápmi is covered in snow from around October to May!
Which objects should I place so that it ends up looking like Sápmi?
Red, smaller wooden houses! Many houses in Sápmi are painted Falun red. The paint was cheap (a waste product from the copper mining industry). Other colors include yellow (mostly public buildings) and white. But all bright colors are naturally more visible in the snow. I used the debug items from Cats&Dogs, Adventure Awaits, and Highschool Years.
Extra tip: Nando has turned Tartosa into a wonderful world, named Sulavík! You can download the save file here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/sims-4-going-mod-125500913 Thanks to Nando, we have a range of small houses in different colors available. That's why I highly recommend downloading it. You'll also find a MODS FOLDER there, which contains the debug houses.
What else I placed: coniferous trees, a few things that make the world come alive (simple street lamps, parked cars, mailboxes, benches, few playground equipment, market stalls, etc.). But since Sápmi is sparsely populated and life revolves heavily around nature, there aren't too many things built by Sims here.
And how do I fill the lots with beautiful buildings?
Keep an eye out for amazing creations from other Simmers! There are so many incredible houses in the Gallery that I've found. Just try out different hashtags. Or build everything yourself :)
Do you have any tips or tricks? I would be grateful for any information about Sápmi and its culture, as I am not from there. I'm just trying things out myself and loving to learn about other cultures and ways of life.
A huge thank you to all creators out there! And to all of you who like and reblog my posts. <3
