03/26/18 - Buena Vista, VA - CANAL ART - We finally made it to the Northern Terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway but it was closed to vehicle traffic due to snow and ice. I decided to see how far I could get on my bike and managed to ride eight miles before encountering a section of road covered with snow. It was surreal having the whole road to myself the entire time I was on it. For the next few days, our strategy will be to follow a route that more or less parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway and each day, drive up to it and see if we can find sections of the Parkway that are at least rideable on the bike and hopefully drivable as well. This pic was taken at our campground in Buena Vista which is not far from the Parkway. Wasn’t expecting to see canal art in today’s big back yard. Very cool.
