Angel Rewatch 5.13 Why We Fight:
1. Spikes hair is tragic in this episode. First he’s got that black thing going on which is not a good look and then he has freshly bleached, yellow, untoned blonde in the last scene.
2. I like the Easter egg about The Initiative. I also like that Spike gets picked up by the German version AND the US version in his lifetime. That feels on brand for him.
3. I love when we get to see different facets of souled Angels life. On Buffy he’s so one dimensional because we’re experiencing him through the lense of a teenage girl falling in love. We really only ever see what she sees. I like that Angels demons aren’t just his evil deeds but also his own personality and trauma. Being a good person who is compassionate and compelled to help people does NOT come naturally to Angel. He has to work to be good every day.
4. I’m a sucker for the cheeky humor and so I enjoy the vampires on the submarine so much. I can’t help wondering if What We Do in the Shadows was inspired by this episode. I mean...like honestly was it? Can someone ask Taika because The Prince of Lies and Nostroyev truly feel like precursors for that movie. I’d genuinely die of shock if there isn’t some link.
5. Poor Fred. She’s literally always a hostage and she deserves much better.
