#not ableism ask

I don't know if this is allowed, but I have a question about the "making a villain character disabled" ask. Is it harmful to simply have a villain character be disabled? Or does the disability have to be a part of what makes them villainous? I'm genuinely curious and have no ill intent in asking this and really do apologize if follow up questions om asks aren't allowed.

Don't worry about it! Clarification is always welcome - even us mods have to ask for clarification.

The blog @cripplecharacters has a great series of posts/asks on writing disabled villains. You can find that here. I think that's a better resource to point to than trying to reiterate a lot of points over and over again which could be explained by scrolling through these asks.

I've been half tempted to make a This Is Reblog Bait sideblog or something because there is a shit ton of it crawling around Tumblr. Some of the people who make it aren't even apologetic about not tagging it, that or tag it improperly

The ableism part is when people refuse to tag reblog bait and/or OCD triggers improperly and don't bother to fix it

Tbh, I love learning about disabilities and disfigurements. Especially niche ones that are hardly mentioned/noted

Same! I’ve gotten to learn about so many different disabilities since making this blog!

One I learned about recently, outside of this blog was stargardt disease, a type of macular degeneration in juveniles. (Central vision worsens over time)

genuine question is anxiety a disability? (asking because i feel like im in a lose-lose situation with my anxiety rn)

if your anxiety is disabling you from participating in one or more activities of life, it is a disability.

I want to hear your opinion. If a character is speaking gibberish, is it better to subtitle it trying to write out the gibberish, or just writing [speaking gibberish]

Do you even know what "ableist" means?! A person with no morals doesn't care about being ableist or not. What is it, do you think you're the police, labeling everyone who doesn't share your opinion??

There are plenty of examples on the blog that show that we don’t call everything ableism. We have solidarity, we have situations where asks aren’t ableist, and we ask the community for advice on how to judge a situation.

I just figured out how to do that, if that one anon comes back I will block them

So I suppose I should share with others, clicking the three dots in the top right corner of an anon has a “block sender” button!

why do you tag posts with #disabilties? is it because that's a common misspelling?

I never really noticed, when I click the main tags for just about any post they're auto filled at this point.
