[I first want to apologize to my followers, old and new, for being on my bs so much lately. I fully blame fb and twi.tter and the fact that stupid ass outrage of fictional characters and this god awful fandom is like...the only thing I seem capable of feeling so I think I’m riding that wave of whatever brain chemical it gives me to fight off feeling totally numb or worse.

Goku wasn't there for good reasons. Each time he died, he did it saving his family and the planet. His only major "screw up" with giving Cell the Senzu Bean and is a misunderstanding. And, if these people actually watched/read the series, they would see is valid because tbh? Up to that point, Gohan always wanted to fight and help, the most prominent example being how HE wanted to go to Namek to revive Piccolo, even though he knew there would be danger and that Vegeta would very likely be there. He trains willingly with Goku and Piccolo to prepare for the androids. He willingly goes into the time chamber with Goku. Goku ASKS HIM if he wants to fight Cell. Never does he outright protest or say no. And, sure, you can say, “Well that’s because he’s his dad and he doesn’t want to let him down!” And sure, okay. Valid enough. But here’s the kicker: Gohan has absolute faith in his father. Goku is Gohan’s hero and he trusts him absolutely.

Why is that important? Wouldn’t Goku giving Cell the Senzu Bean break that trust, you ask? Potentially, yes. But, as we see later in the Buu saga, it doesn’t. He’s still telling Goten stories about their father and his heroism. The other way of seeing this is this way: Gohan trusted his father’s decision and faith in him. Did Goku make the mistake of assuming Gohan LIKED fighting like him? Absolutely. But that’s his only crime (and, bonus! Goku was ready to step in once he saw it was getting bad! Even though he knew he couldn’t beat Cell! But we forget that conveniently). But it’s understandable considering A. they share Saiyan blood but, B. and more importantly, Gohan always showed a willingness to help out when his friends and home were in danger. His mistake is absolutely valid and I won’t change my mind.

As for Goten? Don’t (and that’s not at you mentioning Goten because I know you’re not A Fool). Again. Goku was dead because he risked his life to save the Earth. He STAYED dead because, VALIDLY, he concluded that his reputation and history often put the planet AND HIS FAMILY in danger. Do people think this was easy for him? Do they really believe Goku WANTED to make a widow of Chi-Chi and leave Gohan and his unborn child behind? The stupid and unfortunate answer is yes. They do. They sit there and say, “Lol he did that because then he could train all he wanted (which he didn’t know at the time) because all he cared about ever was a good fight!” Thanks, Super and TFS (but at least the latter apologized and shouldn’t have been taken as the gospel truth in the first place).

Anyway, tl;dr. Goku is a good dad. He made a mistake with Gohan, but when you actually watch the series, you know he cares about him and wants to be in his life and with his family. 

Saying Vegeta is a better father because he’s present in Trunks’s life is bullshit and anyone with half a brain cell knows it. It is CANON that Vegeta never hugged Trunks in the first 8 years of his life (and even the first he gets is halfway just to get him out of the way which makes it a LITTLE sus but that’s just me). Therefore, it’s easy to assume by how he interacts with Bulma and Trunks in the episodes before the tournament that Vegeta is very distant from both of them. Like he MAYBE trained with Trunks when he felt like it, which I can’t imagine was often due to disinterest on both party’s part, but tbh? It’s kind of suggested Vegeta hasn’t even been training in the seven year gap. Not seriously, at least. And, the fact that he’s only JUST finding out that Trunks is a Super Saiyan is further suggestion that that may have been the first time they trained together. Again, at least seriously. 

It’s the equivalent of saying an abusive and/or alcoholic father that is home every night with his wife and kids is better than the father who has to be out of town most days of the week for his job to support his family but calls every night and spends as much time as he can with his family on his days off. It is mistaking the idea of present vs Present.]
