Carol clutched the child within her arms, staring down into the closed eyes of her daughter. A shock of red hair covered the top of her head, not all that thick but heartwrenchingly adorable.
Her chest raised up and down, slowly but surely. Like her lungs were normal, like she was born when she was supposed to.
That was the problem, of course. Anna was barely seven months old, and yet she breathed, looked, and was as healthy as any child born at term.
